I love traveling on my own - it forces me to do things I'd never have the nerve to do otherwise, like ask for things in a language I don't know, walk up to people I've never met, go places I might have skipped...

So why do I love to travel solo? As a woman on my own I may get special treatment - like a preferred seat on top of rice bags in the back of the truck; I meet more people, especially in countries where women on their are unusual; I gain self-confidence; I'm more approachable - a single person usually is; I do what I want, when I want; and I get time to sit with myself.

I have rarely been lonely. On the contrary, just finding solitude is often the problem.
